Technology For Teens, Good or Bad?

Technology, today became one of the elements in the earth’s that grows very fast. Technology in this context, is information and communication.

We, as modern human, at this time is no wonder anymore when seeing people using mobile phones wherever they are. In taxis, markets, houses, and even when driving, people still use of their phones.

One the other hand, we see that the use of technology is dominated by teenagers. They are very quick to accept and understand how to use technology. There are many students from elementary, junior high school, senior high school, and university that consistently using technology ranging from mobile phones, computers, internet, and games.

Is technology good or bad? Technology is a group of devices that can be bad for the development of teenager’s life.

First, many spread of information between technology devices is not filtered anymore. Information, whether it’s bad or good, it quickly spreads from one device to another. As a result, many teens are accessing pornography and even addicted to access that bad content.

Various cases of sexual harassment, rape, and promiscuity that exists among teenagers today, many are caused by them who are very easy to access the bad content using the Internet.

Second, the addiction to the internet and games, makes the teens forget that they are social creatures who must interact with others. I see many cases where people meet at a place, but they do not talk; they just “chat” with their friends who are so far away. They prefer to interact online using Facebook, Twitter, Path, Instagram, and other social medias rather than interacting in real life by talking directly to the people who are near them.

This is a contrary ideology for us, the people of Indonesia. We should create a society that is tolerant and caring with each other. When this situation continues, we will lose our identity. Indonesian teenagers will grow up to be people who do not care about each other, do not like to socialize, and do not even know the people around them.

However, although the technology has a devastating effect, behind this sophistication developed by humans, of course, it has many good effects. First, technology is a device that is able to increase the speed and effectiveness of information flow. We are no longer a conventional man who must send a letter if we want to communicate with a long distance friend and we are no longer human being who have to wait for days to get a reply message from a friend. Nowadays, everything became easier because of technology. We are able to send messages using e-mail and SMS within a few seconds. We are able to chat with old friends who haven’t met for a long time while she or he lives far from where we live. We are able to chat with them using BBM, Facebook, Whats Up Messenger, Line Messenger, and many more.

Second, technology is a very good business media campaign. We certainly recognize the Internet, a medium of information that can be accessed by millions people from all over the world, whenever and wherever they want. When the Internet is used to promote a product, then there must be many consumers who come to buy the product. The marketing strategy by the Internet, is also used by teens. I find that many high school or university students consistently having a business by using Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or BBM. It is the impact of technology that are very positive and should be supported by everyone. Using the internet, a teenager does not need to have a big fund to make a business. They do not have to prepare tens of millions to rent a place as a store. They just need to utilize their mobile phones to sell and make money.

Technology, we know having the bad and the good effect for teenagers. To make them understand on how to use it well, as parents, we must guide them continuously.

Global Warming and the solutions

⁽¹⁾Global Warming became the most hot issue in entire the world. The effect of Global Warming is very dangerous for the environment. But, there are still a lot of people who think about the global warming as just the issue and it is never make an effect to our Earth in the future. Though, there are a lot of signs from the nature that arise as the bad effect of Global warming.

Global warming is a situation when the temperature of the earth increases. Recently the temperature of the earth is increasing. The increase of the earth’s temperature is obviously a bad thing for us. The iceberg in the North Pole melt and the sea level increases, If we cannot stop this to happen. ⁽²⁾There will be many cities in the worlds immerse to the water.

⁽³⁾Global warming is caused by humans. ⁽⁴⁾Human use a huge number of fossil fuel everyday. As we all know that the fossil fuel produce carbon dioxide that can damage the ozone layer in our sky. This ozone layer protects us from Ultraviolet ray that comes from the sun. Without adeguate ozon layer protection, ⁽⁵⁾UV ray will come directly to our earth. This can increase the temperature of the earth. Additionally the forestation is taking place in massive scale. The forest that actually help in neutralize the carbon dioxide has been reduce in number. The carbon dioxide eventually go up to the sky an destroy the oxon level. This is a very bad situation.

Besides that, livestock and agriculture also have contribution such as using excessive methane gas as the fertilizers. The chemicals in fertilizers can not only damage the air lining, but also the waters, soils, and production of the food.  Besides that, the reasons why global warming happen is because the factor of deforestation (land clearing) in big scale to make the public facilities, such as road, school, hospital, and another buildings.

This is a very bad situation.

The solutions to minimize global warming

To reduce the effect of global warming which happened, ⁽⁶⁾you can try to do these tips: First, choose the energy saving lamps as the lighting in your house. Energy saving lamps have more expensive than the general lamps, but ⁽⁷⁾the energy which is needed to light up is smaller than general lamps. Beside of that, this lamp is more durable.

Second, do not forget to turn off the lamps when they were not in use again. When paying the bills, ⁽⁸⁾you will choose to pay online. This method is more econimal than pay directly. ⁽⁹⁾You can reduce the using paper which is used as noted invoice. ⁽¹⁰⁾You can save the fuels of your vehicles because you are not need to use your vehicles as when pay directly.

Third, ⁽¹¹⁾laptops and computer are the most things which is used in daily in every house. ⁽¹²⁾You should turn off this device when they are not in use too. And ⁽¹³⁾You can choose to do not use the screen saver to save the energy.

Fourth, when shopping, ⁽¹⁴⁾you should bring your own bag which is made from the cloth. Avoid to use plastic bags which is given by the supermarket. Plastic is a material that is difficult to be processed naturally by the environment. It took hundred years to make it decomposed.

Fifth, to have friendly environment, ⁽¹⁵⁾you can use bicycle which will good for your healthy too. In addition,  you must keep the condition of tap in your house in good condition.  From a lot of researches, broken taps can make the a lot of litter waters wasted in vain. Though, amount of the waters in the Earth is not much anymore. The last, always try to fill your courtyard with the trees. Tree can release oxygens which can make the air become fresh.
